I don’t understand what is your point? Do you need the intermediate firmware of the router to update to OpenWrt firmware?

“I get errors saying I need kernel 5.15.167-1-144de9e5c1a8813b724b14faa054d9f0 for a bunch of different packages.

My research says you need to do a sysupgrade, but all manual sysupgrades brick the device and attended sysupgrades say no image exists. Do I need to manually build a system image for a more recent kernel? I bought the R700 to do metered wan failover and the stock firmware has no option for metered firmware."

The OpenWrt firmware is not developed by Cudy but by the developers. We need the OpenWrt forum official support the router at first, then we can release a middle firmware for you, then you can use and upgrade to the OpenWrt firmware. Thanks!
